Lanciau Bridge is open
On June 5th, the rail bridge on the MOB line in the town of Rossinière was displaced sideway to its final location. This railway bridge, made in spatial tubular structure, is the first of its kind in Switzerland.
Track work required the implementation of an 11-week "cluster" during which trains were replaced by buses. This interruption of traffic, an exceptional and unique event for the MOB, made possible to evacuate the existing bridge, modify and remediate the original masonry abutments and finally displace sideway the new structure to the exact location of the old one.
The new bridge was designed to preserve the spirit of the existing structure by keeping a characteristic lattice structure, while modernizing its shape (triangular space lattice of variable height) as well as its sections (circular tubes).
This major civil engineering structure was open to traffic on due time (June 2nd at 5:00 am) and is since home to the MOB's scenic trains, following the tradition of the Alpine steel railway bridges.
Many thanks to all the people involved in the project who have shown responsiveness and have worked hard to achieve this great challenge in a very tight time.
